  • Building of model. (see below)

Current work:

1. We found blueprints of the apartments.

We're now drawing it in scale in Freehand so that we can construct the model out of plexiglass.

2. The drawing is done, we have the dimensions of all the pieces needed.

We also went to buy all the material needed, so tomorrow we will start building..

3. The model is almost done. Minor work remains, then we can fill the upper apartment with our "dust" and mount it for the exhibit.

The upper apartment of the two interlocked units in our model will be filled with "dust" and the lower will be clean.

It will be lit by a blacklight lamp so that the "dust" will glow.

Pictures of the building process will be posted as we go along.

Current thinking:

Since the host for the virus is the cell, we felt that since the cell itself dies and regenerates with a high frequency, it would be interesting to focus on the dead cells as a sign of ageing. In particular, the skin cells which is really what we think of as dust.

The object:

To build a scale model of one unit of Le Corbusier's "Unité d'Habitation" (translation: Housing Unity).

The model will be made of plexiglass so the indside can be viewed.

A flourecent "dust" will be placed inside and a black light will illuminate the whole model making it glow in the dark.

We will attach this model to a wall where the full house (Unité d-Habitation) will be outlined in 2D, and the model will look like it's "pulled out" of the "blueprint".

Through this model we can observe the ageing through the movement and accumulation of dust.

Interview with Le Corbusier:

WORKING INFO:

Powder

The average human skin weighs 4kg and measures approx. 2 sq meters.

It regenerates in its entirety in 28-30 days.

This means we "shed" 138 grams of dead skin cells every day.
